Author’s Note & Mission Statement
Feed children’s minds with great books and nurture them with nature.
My personal author mission is to challenge every adult who reads my children’s book Clara’s Curiosity & Her Foxy Friends to go beyond the shared reading of this story and create an intentional nature adventure activity for these children. By doing so you will encourage children to model the same behaviors as the main character, Clara.
I want every child who experiences this book to be inspired to learn from the beauty around them, and to become eager to go out into nature and develop their own curiosities. The book proudly contains over 200 sight words for budding readers.
We must take the time to create opportunities that provide our children with wonder and curiosity about nature. Engaged children will thank you for bringing them into nature to nurture their time to learn, play, research, read, write, draw, laugh, or simply be in the great outdoors!
Nature Reading & Journaling Challenge Steps:

- Pick a date.
- Find a nearby location.
- Go outside in nature to read Clara’s Curiosity & Her Foxy Friends.
- Kick off a hike or a short walk along a trail.
- Give the children a journal so they can sit under a tree or on a rock to spend time drawing, while fully engaging with nature.
- Ask the children to close their eyes . . .
- Now ask them…what do you hear? What do you smell?
- Have the children open their eyes. What do you see?
- Now let them draw and write in their journals . . .
- This will help them experience what is around them and get them inspired to look more deeply into the details of nature that surround them.
- Don’t forget the binoculars!
If you accept my challenge, please share a photo, a drawing, or a short story.
